December 6, 2023 Contact: Taylor Haulsee WASHINGTON — Speaker Johnson released the following statement Wednesday evening after the Senate voted down Senator Schumer’s partisan approach to national security legislation:
“House and Senate Republicans remain united and have been clear from the beginning that national security begins at our own borders. “Make no mistake, the Senate vote failed today because Senate Democrats and the White House continue to refuse to acknowledge this simple truth. “Now that Senator Schumer has demonstrated there is not enough support for his partisan approach, House Republicans reiterate what we have said all along: any supplemental national security legislation must secure our own border. The American people deserve nothing less.”
